Coachella 2012

I finally went to Coachella. I went to see Rage Against the Machine back in 2007 but that was only a single day. I haven’t been back since, because they made it mandatory to buy 3-day passes and up until now there weren’t enough bands I liked playing to justify spending that much money. That changed when both Refused and At the Drive-In announced they were reuniting for it. And then I looked at the rest of the lineup and realized it was going to be amazing.

Top Artists for the week ending Sunday 25 March 2012

  1. Every Time I Die (15)
  2. Van Halen (12)
  3. Say Anything (10)
  4. The Mars Volta (9)
  5. Young the Giant (8)

The Mars Volta will be one of those bands that puts out an amazing debut album and then never matches it again, which is a real bummer because De-Loused in the Comatorium is one of my favorite albums. Frances the Mute and The Bedlam in Goliath were pretty good and the rest, save a couple stand out songs, have been pretty bad.

Just out of this list was M83. I fired up Spotify to give the latest album a listen since they seem to be another band everyone has been buzzing about. But just like the last buzz band, Gotye, I couldn’t get into it, at all. Although, their current single “Midnight City” is pretty good, but I feel like it should be playing over an 80’s movie’s credits.
